2/22/09 Hot AC Chart: Fray climb to #1, Pink gets another top 10

We have a new #1 at the top of the chart this week, as “You Found Me” by the Fray moves up 1. This is the Fray’s 2nd #1 hit. Their previous #1, “How to Save a Life”, spent 12 weeks at #1. Moving up to #3 is a potential #1 contender in a few weeks, “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. Kelly Clarkson, who also has potential in several weeks, inches up to #7.

Pink replaces herself in the top 10 this week as “Sober” moves to #9 and “So What” moves to #11. This is Pink’s 4th top 10, and all 4 have been in a row, starting with “U+Ur Hand” back in 2007.

There are 15 songs by solo women this week. One of those songs, “Where I Stood” by Missy Higgins, returns to a peak of #19 this week. Also returning to its peak is “Rock & Roll” by Eric Hutchinson, which moves back up to #24.

After a slow start, “Angels on the Moon” by Thriving Ivory gains momentum and climbs 3 more to #25.

Britney watch: “Circus” climbs to #28.  Her biggest hit, “Oops I Did It Again”, topped out at #24.

Debuting this week: ” I Will Be” by Leona Lewis and “Love, Save the Empty” by Erin McCarley.

2/15/09 Hot AC Chart: Katy Perry’s big rebound, Fray close in on #1

Nickelback hold on to the top of the chart for a 7th week this week, but their reign is nearing its end. The Fray move up 1 to #2 and are not far behind in spins. David Cook holds at #4 with a small bullet this week. Entering the top 5  to score her first top 5 on the Hot AC chart is Taylor Swift with “Love Story”. The song also moves into the #1 spot on the Pop chart this week.

Kelly Clarkson slows down her climb this week and moves up only one notch to #8. No songs exit the top 10 this week, but Pink looks to be coming and going soon. “So What” falls to #10 while “Sober” moves to #11. The All-American Rejects move up 3 to #15 and have the biggest gain in spins this week.  Rounding out the top 20 is Beyonce, with “Single Ladies” at #20. The song is only her 2nd top 20 hit on Hot AC.  “Irreplaceable”, her biggest, reached #16.

Britney Spears’ “Circus” reaches the top 30 at #29. Katy Perry has the biggest move of the week, jumping 8 to #30. “Thinking of You” has had a strange chart run: 39-34-38-30.

This week’s only debut is O.A.R.’s “This Town” at #40.

2/8/09 Hot AC Chart: Kelly Clarkson enters top 10, Britney has the biggest mover?!

Nickelback hold at the top of the chart for a 6th week with “Gotta Be Somebody”. The Fray continue to gain spins but are stuck at #3. David Cook inches up to #4, but his spin gain is not very much, so he does not look like a #1 contender at the moment. Taylor Swift looks top 5 bound with “Love Story”, which moves up to #6.

Kelly Clarkson jumps 4 to #9 with “My Life Would Suck without You”. The song is Kelly’s 6th top 10 on the Hot AC chart, and this now makes her the American Idol contestant with the most top 10s on this format. She was in a tie with Daughtry, who has 5 and is now in second place.

Moving into the top 20 this week are All-American Rejects and Lady GaGa.  Beyonce looks top 20 bound with “Single Ladies”, which moves up to #22.  Eric Hutchinson moves to a new peak of #24 in his 14th week on the chart.

While Kelly, Pink, and All-American Rejects all make 4 notch moves within the top 20, the biggest mover of the week is by a star that normally makes such moves on the pop chart, Britney Spears. “Circus” climbs 5 to #31.  Meanwhile, “Womanizer” slips back to #34.

The only debut this week is Lily Allen’s “The Fear” at #39.
