10/26/08 Hot AC Chart: Idols continue to make waves, Christina Aguilera returns

Jason Mraz holds at the top of the chart for a fourth week. Coming up and landing at #3 is O.A.R.’s “Shattered”. The song could be a #1 contender as Pink still has a way to go, even though she’s still gaining spins at a healthy rate at #6.

Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold” outpeaks her previous, “I Kissed a Girl” this week as the song moves up to #14.

David Archuleta joins the Idols top 20 club this week as “Crush” jumps 6 notches to #20. He joins fellow Idols Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Jordin Sparks, Elliot Yamin, and David Cook as Idols who have cracked the top 20 on the Hot AC chart.

Speaking of David Cook, his “Light On” makes the biggest move on the chart by leaping 10 spots to #30. Chart watchers take note: “Time of My Life” was mistakenly removed to recurrent this week. The song should have been at #15, but for some unknown reason Mediabase removed the song early.

Christina Aguilera returns to the Hot AC chart after nearly a 2 year absence. She has the highest debut of the week at #37 with “Keeps Getting Better”. This is her 11th song to chart on Hot AC. Other debuts this week include Missy Higgins’ “Where I Stood” at #39 and “Let It Rock” by Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne.

10/19/08 Hot AC Chart: Nickelback’s fast climb, David Cook debuts

Jason Mraz holds at the top of the chart for a third week with “I’m Yours”. “Love Remains the Same” holds at #2 while Daughtry’s “What about Now” climbs a notch to #3. #2 and #3 still have a long way to go to catch up to #1.

Nickelback blast up 6 notches to #10, reaching the top 10 in just their 3rd week. This is the fastest time to the top 10 for any Nickelback hit. This is not a record though. Other songs have made it to the top 10 in just 2 weeks, including “If You Go” by Jon Secada, “I’ll Be There for You” by the Rembrandts, and “Thank U” by Alanis Morissette. Nickelback’s 6 spot move is the biggest move on this week’s chart.

“Rise Above This” holds at #20 again this week. The song will probably be removed to recurrent status as soon as the song loses its bullet.

David Cook debuts with his 2nd hit, “Light on”, at #40. The song has a healthy bullet, so look for it to move up several spots next week. This is the only debut on the chart. Falling off is former Hot AC mainstays the Goo Dolls with “Real”. “Real” only spent 1 week on the chart.

10/12/08 Hot AC Chart: Nickelback’s big move, Goo Goo Dolls add another hit

“I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz holds at the top of the chart for a 2nd week. It looks like he’ll hold for a few more weeks. Daughtry’s “What about Now” looks to be the greatest threat to Jason’s reign, as “What about Now” holds at #4. While Gavin Rossdale inches up to #2, his bullet is a lot weaker than Daughtry’s.

Nickelback’s “Gotta Be Somebody” leaps 10 notches to #16 in only its 2nd week on the chart. The song has a bullet of over 700 spins this week. Also making a decent move is Katy Perry. “Hot N Cold” jumps 5 to #19. This could outpeak “I Kissed a Girl”, which topped out at #16.

Rhianna re-enters the survey at #39 with “Take a Bow.” The only new entry this week is the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Real”. The song comes in at #40, and is the Dolls’ 14th Hot AC hit.

10/5/08 Hot AC Chart: Mraz goes #1, Pink Top 10, Nickelback’s big debut

Jason Mraz has a record setting #1hit this week as “I’m Yours” moves 2-1. He sets the record for the slowest rise to the top of the chart.  The song debuted on the March 30 chart, and it reaches #1 in its 28th week on. The breaks the previous record of 26 weeks set earlier this year by Sarah Bareilles’ “Love Song”.

Pink scores her 3rd top 10 with “So What”. Out of her 6 years charting with 9 HAC top 40 hits, only the last 3 have made the top 10. The song makes the top 10 in only 7 weeks.

Lifehouse makes the top 10 with “Broken” this week, giving them a total of 5 top 10s out of 9 top 40 hits.

Blasting onto the entire chart at #26 is the latest from Nickelback, “Gotta Be Somebody”. The song has a bullet of +749!  This is their 10th Hot AC hit, and their last 5 songs all made the top 10.

The only other debut this week is newcomer Saving Abel with “Addicted” at #39.
